Which number to call

Each Idaho line below handles one kind of question, so calling the right one first saves a transfer.

The claims line answers Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mountain Time, except observed holidays, and the Department warns that waits run longer on Mondays and after a holiday. Its click-to-chat runs weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., and the unemployment email form gets an answer within 2 business days. That form is for questions the Department's FAQ did not answer, not for anything urgent or tied to a deadline, and it should never carry your full Social Security number.

Call 208-332-8942 within 24 hours if you notice a mistake on a weekly certification, since a quick fix prevents a payment delay. The Industrial Commission's legal assistant can explain procedure on a pending case but gives no estimate of timing, outcome, or your legal rights. A wage claim can also be filed online through the Department's wage claim page, which warns that choosing the Department's process gives up your right to file a civil complaint over those wages.

Some questions need no call at all. If your claim has a pending issue, a claims representative will contact you by phone or email, and you keep filing weekly certifications meanwhile. If someone filed a claim in your name, report the identity theft online; the Department stops further payments and reaches out if it has questions. Help in another language

Language help is free for anyone with limited English, and aids or services for a disability are available on request through the nearest Department of Labor office. Ask for either when you call 208-332-8942 or book an office visit.

• Connect you with unemployment insurance navigators, who help with filing, verifying your identity, finding the documents you need, and avoiding delays.
• Help with job searching, resumes, and training, covered on the job search page.

ID.me itself handles sign-in, document, and selfie problems, through its Idaho help guides and a chat staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and it has no phone line; the Department takes over for benefit questions once you are verified. The Department's ID.me flyer recommends booking an appointment before you go, and 208-332-8942 can help you schedule one. The Department's own pages differ on navigators: the office directory says they are at all locations, while the ID.me flyer says some locations. Ask whether a navigator will be there when you book.

What an office cannot do matters just as much:

• It cannot accept an appeal to the Industrial Commission. The Commission's rules say an appeal delivered or sent to any Department of Labor office is not valid, so follow the Commission route on the appeals page.
• It will not discuss your claim with a friend or family member unless you have told the Department in writing that it may.
